At Sew Devine, we offer sewing machine servicing and repairs from our shop in Reading, Berkshire.

Whether your machine is not stitching correctly, making an unusual noise, jamming, skipping stitches, or simply needs a proper service, our team can help advise you on the best next step.

Our servicing is a full sewing machine service, not just a quick clean. We aim to check, assess and service machines properly so they can run as smoothly and reliably as possible.

Sewing machine servicing in Reading

Regular servicing can help keep your sewing machine working well and may help prevent small issues from becoming bigger problems.

A machine service may be suitable if your machine:

• has not been serviced for a long time;
• is noisy or running roughly;
• is skipping stitches;
• is jamming or tangling thread;

• is not feeding fabric properly;
• has been heavily used;
• needs checking before starting a large project;

Older machines and spare parts

We will always do our best to help, but some older machines can be difficult or impossible to repair if parts are no longer available.

If a machine is discontinued, heavily worn, damaged, unsafe or has limited spare parts available, we may not be able to complete a repair.

Where possible, we will advise you if a repair is not economical or if parts are unavailable.

What to bring with your machine

When bringing your machine in for servicing or repair, please bring the following where possible:

• the sewing machine;
• foot control;
• power lead;
• bobbin case;
• bobbin;
• standard presser foot;
• embroidery unit, if the issue relates to embroidery;
• any accessories connected to the fault;
• a sample of the stitching problem, if possible.

If the machine is showing a particular fault, it can be very helpful to bring a sample of the fabric, thread and needle you were using when the problem happened.

Before bringing your machine in

Before bringing your machine to us, please contact the shop if possible. This helps us advise whether we can look at the machine and what you may need to bring with it.

Please also make sure your contact details are correct when leaving a machine with us, as we will use these details to update you about the service or repair.

Repair times

Repair and service times can vary depending on the machine, the fault, how busy the workshop is, and whether parts are required.

If parts need to be ordered, this may affect how long the repair takes.

We will contact you once your machine is ready for collection, or if we need to discuss anything before proceeding with additional work.

Collection after service or repair

Once your machine is ready, we will contact you using the details provided.

Please collect your machine as soon as reasonably possible after we notify you.

If your machine remains uncollected for a long period, we will make reasonable efforts to contact you again using the details we hold.

Servicing and repairs for machines bought elsewhere

You do not have to have purchased your machine from Sew Devine to ask us about servicing or repairs.

We are happy to advise where possible, although whether we can service or repair a machine may depend on the make, model, condition of the machine and availability of parts.

Need advice?

If your machine is not working correctly, or you are unsure whether it needs a service or repair, please contact us.

We may ask you for the make and model of the machine, a description of the problem, and whether any error message is showing.

If possible, please also let us know:

• when the problem started;
• whether the machine has recently been moved, dropped or stored away;
• what thread, needle and fabric you were using;
• whether the issue happens on all stitches or only certain stitches;
• whether the machine has been serviced before.
